This development focuses on the riverside areas to strengthen the image of Banjarmasin as the riverfront city. Tendean riverside quay is part of the city‟s master plan project of the flood embankment and waterfront open spaces along 7 km from the Old Market Bridge to R.K Ilir Bridge that is built gradually. As part of Martapura Riverside Quays, this quay is a segment that has supporting public space facilities and often used for public activities so that the place becomes an interesting destination for the citizens. This paper aims at analyzing design qualities of Tendean riverside quay as urban waterfront public space based on the criteria – 10 qualities of a great waterfront destination – developed by the organization called Project for Public Spaces (PPS). Descriptive-qualitative method is used to describe physical and non-physical conditions of the quay that serves as urban waterfront public space today. Based on the analysis, this riverside quay meets 6 criteria out of 10 criteria for a great waterfront destination; (1) this area is no longer be used as residential areas and settlements, (2) high intensity of public activities happen on the quay throughout the year, (3) the quay is accessible, (4) some activities and facilities triggered by local culture, (5) the river itself is the centerpiece of the public space, and (6) iconic and historical buildings along the quay support public activities. Meanwhile, based on remaining qualities, the condition of the quay as urban waterfront public space needs improvement to be a better destination.
