Abstract:
Balinese people have a variety of traditions and ritual ceremonies, since
ancient times the Balinese are used to carrying out ritual ceremonies that
have their own meaning for the Balinese people. One of the ceremonies that
are still carried out by the Balinese people in Tajau Pecah is the Ngaben
ceremony (death ceremony). In this study, researchers used qualitative
research methods. Qualitative research methods are research that intends
and aims to understand the phenomena experienced by research subjects such
as motivation, perceptual behavior, actions, and others. The results showed
that Ngaben is a cremation ceremony originating from Hindus in Indonesia.
Ngaben ceremony is a ritual performed to send the corpse in the next life. For
the people in Tajau Pecah village, cremation is a happy moment because by
carrying out this ceremony, parents or children have carried out their
obligations as family members. Therefore, this ceremony is always greeted
with joy without sobbing, they believe that sobbing actually only hinders the
spirit's journey to reach Nirvana
