Description:
Tropical peatland is a unique ecosystem that is susceptible to fire and
drainage. The degraded peatland will take a long time to recover and return to its original
condition. The research aimed to identify plant diversity of degraded tropical peatland in
Talekung Punai village, Central Kalimantan. Line transects were used along 330 m with size
10 m x 100 m to estimate plant diversities. The results showed high abundance of Galam
Melaleucea leucadendra followed by Muhur Lagerstroemia speciosa, Takerung
Archiedendron pauciflorum, Halaban Vitex pinnata, Kayu emas Ilex cymosa, Kayu tupi
Syzygium polyanthum, Hampuak Baccaurea bracteata, Buton Syzygium sp., and Tabati
Syzygium lineatum. A plant diversity index based on Shannon – Wiener was categorized as
low with a value of 0.8.
