This paper aims to understand the relationship between lifestyle and architecture. It is
important to understand the root problems associated with the work of architecture and lifestyle of
people who create and use these masterpieces.For that there are 3 questions I want answered.
First, whether the lifestyle is part of the process of architecture? second, whether the architecture
that makes lifestyle or vice versa? and Third, how the embodiment of lifestyle in the design?
Through these three questions then we will know the relationship between lifestyle and
architecture, especially in the context of various problems of environmental degradation, natural
disasters, and decreased quality of life due to the management of the built environment and its use
by humans.This study uses vernacular design approach tribe Banjar in South Kalimantan.This
study concluded that lifestyle in the process of architecture for the people of Banjar is a wisdom in
overcoming the problem of the natural environment by maintaining or without change and the
obligation to maintain confidence through the application of religious teachings through space and
shape.Lifestyle is formed from the natural environmental conditions and beliefs. Lifestyle embodied
in the forms which have a strong foundation of belief that design is not solely based on the need for
comfort and beauty alone that is currently more a priority.
