Currently, various physical discomfort that has felt on living in Banjarmasin is largely due to human error
in processing their own built environment. There has been a power struggle among the natural factors
and desires of the design that caused the environment or habitat as the victim. On the perspective of
environmental sustainability, the main factor causing damage to the environment or habitat is
characteristics of wetlands, which had forced to change by the designs.
On the other side, local wisdom from the past in the building as shown by the concept of float was not
understood and used anymore by the current generation. Whereas the concept of building or
construction of float has proven capable of maintaining environmental sustainability for years. Actually,
the concept of floating construction can be found easily in various forms and functions that are very
familiar with the daily life of the Banjarese society. Therefore, this study tries to examine both of
floating and design concepts in the built environment, especially dwelling and rural area.
This study uses a quantitative approach in looking at the reality of its research object. Physical aspects of
vernacular knowledge that had been built by the Banjarese society ancestors were hereditary. Local
concepts such as; kacapuri, lanting, titian, dermaga (piers), etc. will be used as a reference coupled with
the preparation the concept of contemporary reference of construction technology.
The results are a model (procedural theory) which used to planning and to develop the environmental of
wetlands. The data used to include data on land characteristics, carrying capacity, climate, materials,
technology, construction methods, and socio-cultural. Data gathered through the field observations and
literature sources. The methods of analysis used modeling techniques from single residential to
communal and its supporting components.
Furthermore, the concept of a floating construction is expected to become a model of sustainable
development on wetlands environmental conditions, particularly in the city of Banjarmasin.
Keywords: sustainable development, floating construction, wetlands, architectural simulation. |
