dc.description Stabilization of organic matter in raised-bed soils of tidal swamplands reduce greenhouse gas emissions and influence organic matter contents. Farmers in tidal swamplands annually conduct "peliburan" - deposed organic matter mixed with muddy silt-clay minerals from sunken-beds and then piled onto the raised beds. This experiment aimed to study the influence of "peliburan" on the stabilization of organic matter in the raised-bed soils. Results of this study showed that organic carbon content did not change for the raised-bed aged 2-15 years, but decreased significantly for the raised bed aged 26 years. Organic carbon contents in the raised-beds were controlled by soil surface properties such as clay content, exchangeable Ca and Al-Fe oxides. This study showed that “peliburan” could maintain organic matter contents of the raised-bed soils for ≤ 15 years.
