dc.description.abstract There are various English learning strategies used by different students. The effective utilization of the English learning strategies might lead the students to language acquisition. Some students might be good language learners because they have applied the appropriate strategies; while some others are not.The thing is that most of the students are not explicitly aware of the English learning strategies that they have employed. The English Department students who take Second Language Acquisition Course will have to discuss language learning strategies as a topic to cover. Then after the discussion is over, they are assumed to have understood about the language learning strategies. This study investigates the students’ strategies in learning English. It is aimed to discover what English learning strategies that the students have used when they learn English as a foreign language. This is a descriptive qualitative research. Random Sampling Technique is applied in taking the sample of the study. The subjects are taken randomly as the samples of the study based on their understandings of what learning strategies are. The data are collected from the students’ worksheet. The results show that students apply particular strategies in learning English. Those strategies help them in the acquisition of English. en_US
