Floating market in Banjarmasin, the capital city of South Kalimantan province, has formally
become a national tourist destination since 2011 although this tourist site had already developed as early as 14th century. As a destination of halal tourism, floating market has become a place where trade transactions are made and food is provided in a nuanced Islamic culture. Although floating market has experienced different stages of development fiom tool exchange in the past to the current exchange of various types of merchandise, this market still displays the nuance of Islamic culture. It also shows the nature of life around the market, which still heavily relies on the tradition inherited from generation to generation. Another thing that remains unchanged in floating market is the means of transportation used by the traders to carry their merchandise-- wooden boats:
