This research was conducted to solve the students’ writing problem of generating and elaborating ideas which, in turn, improves their writing skills that was done in
the fifth semester students of the English Department at FKIP Unlam in 2011 - 2012 academic year, comprising of 20 students. It was conducted in one cycle consisting of five meetings. The instruments used for collecting data are field notes and questionnaires. The result of the
research shows that the use of process writing technique could improve the students’ skills in example essay writing. The improvement is indicated by the achievement of the students’ example essay writing scores. There are 85% or 17 students got 73-79 and the last 15% or 3 students got
80 or more. At average, the students’ writing scores achieve 75.2. Since the criteria of success is when each student can achieve minimum 70, none of students was categorized failed. This success also was based on the result of questionnaire showing the average 85% or 17 students who have positive personal judgment toward the implementation of process writing technique.
Finally, the study concludes that the use of process writing technique is effective and successful to improv
e the students’ ability in writing skills. In addition, the researcher also suggests several things. First, English teachers are suggested to employ this technique to improve the students’ achievement in writing example essays. Second, for future researchers, further study
could be conducted related to the use of process writing technique focusing on writing other types of texts and essays, other language skills, and also other field of disciplines.
