This paper aims to explain the transformation of the Dayak Bukit's settlement in Meratus Mountain region
in South Kalimantan Province. Transformation of the settlement is an advanced research of Dayak Bukit's
dwelling changes. Such transformation is very interesting because it still conserve the early of the settlement. This study utilized naturalistic paradigm. By focusing on local people in developing and building the living tradition, this research employed ethnography methods, particularly field observa tions and indepth interviews. This study found that the changes of Dayak Bukit’s dwelling are build the hut, extended the bilik or living space at the balai-adat, build the huts behind the bilik or living space, build houses around the balai-adat, and formed the village. The changes of Dayak Bukit’s dwelling is a transformation process of the settlements from the hut to the village. Generally, the transformation of the Dayak Bukit’s settlement can be divided into three phases, namely: (a) phase of the hut, (b) phase of the balai-adat, and (c) phase of the
village.
