Description:
postharvest handling in paddy production plays an important role in maintaining the quality of the rice lowering the levels of loss, maintaining the process yield, and ensuring a stable rice supply throughout the year. This study sought to observe the rice postharvest handling practices in South Kalimantan, especially its operation efficiency. The results showed that the rice postharvest handling efficiensy can still be improved. The low efficiency is the result of small-scale farming practices. Rice postvest handling efficiency can be improved when implemented on a large scale with the adoption of mechanical processing equipment and good management. However, serious consideration must be given to the possible impact of the adoption of the scheme on the political and socioeconomic situation of the Dopulation in particular, and the nation in general.
