Abstract:
Social construction in society often marginalizes women, creating conditions for gender inequality. Womenare expected to have certain behaviors, which are required to maintain their dignity and self-esteembecause their position is often subordinate to men. The purpose of this study was to analyze the symbolicinteraction and parental communication based on the gender of the child in a tidal swamp environment(study of smallholders in Barito Kuala). This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The objectof research is smallholder farmers in Jejangkit Timur and Jejangkit Barat villages, Barito Kuala district.Primary data were obtained from interviews with two village heads and four farming families as keyinformants. Results and discussion, the communication that is formed between parents and children canbe described as a relationship that has quality between the two. The results showed that thecommunication formed between parents and children could be described as a quality relationship betweenthe two. The quality of parental communication itself has an impact on children's development.Communication based on gender between parents and children that occurs in the tidal swampenvironment, there are still differences between boys and girls. Some differences must be made forcertain things. The symbolic interaction of family and language is direct because it is easy to understandand clear what they want to convey.
