Abstract:
This research was conducted with the aim to know alternative material of natural latex clotting made from cinnamon vinegar, galam wood vinegar and rubber wood vinegar and the ability of each material in coagulating latex. Latex is a white liquid resembling milk coming out of a wounded plant coming out of a rubber tree. Latex can be processed into rubber because it has good properties and has a content of hydrocarbons poly isopropene which became the main component of rubber. In this study the clotting of latex using wood vinegar material. Wood vinegar is an organic liquid derived from burning smoke or wood carbonization and has many uses, among others, as a rubber lump, replacing chemical clumps or acid ants that cause bad smell and disturb health. This research procedure begins by inserting latex into a plastic cup of 180 ml each glass, then each glass is mixed with cinnamon vinegar, galam wood vinegar and rubber vinegar with concentration level 0%, 20%, 40% , 60%, 80%, and 100% as much as 18 ml. The research parameters were latex clotting rate and observation of physical properties of color and odor after agglomeration. The results of this study indicate that rubber vinegar with a concentration of 80% can agglomerate the fastest latex with time for 7 minutes 30 seconds. As for the color and smell of latex after coag each wood vinegar has the characteristic changes in different smells and colors, where on the first day all the latex samples produce a white color and smell like liquid smoke. The noticeable discoloration and odor is seen in the observation of the 4th day of observation with the already blackening color and the stench of latex.
