Abstract:
People in Sungai Jingah (Kelurahan Surgi Mufti) assumed that water is a major component in the community's social and economic life chain. In the life of the community before the entry of PDAM water, river water is not only used as a means of MCK, but also for drinking water. However, with the times and technology, river pollution is increasing, plus the human population and many residents who inhabit the river banks so that household waste is increasing. PDAM is expected to be a solution, there are certain times where water supply will decrease, even stop. Simple filtering technology can be one of the solutions to make clean water from the main water source (river) with a filter containing coconut trunk fibers. Coconut
fiber (Cocos nucifera L.) contains a lot of fiber and is composed of transverse filaments, when cut transversely or crushed,
will be in the form of ash and porous powder which can be used as filters. Likewise with charcoal that is often found in the
community, and made from ironwood is used as activated carbon to remove the taste and odor from water/river. Filtration
system development is carried out in 2 stages, first filter preparation, includes: destruction of coconut trunk and charcoal for
use as filter media and preparation of tools consisting of filter media, pumps, and iron frames that function as foundations in
the filter device series. As well as preparation for residents by increasing the size of the well, installation of culverts, and
installation of tendons as a reservoir for water. The results are pH, TDS and turbidity. The results river water samples after
filtration are pH= 6.5, TDS= 17 mg/L, and turbidity= 1.2 NTU. While for well water the result are pH= 6.4, TDS= 17 mg/L, and
turbidity= 1.3 NTU.
