Abstract:
The development of settlements in the riverbank area is a natural phenomenon of civilization. The river or water as a source of life makes it a gathering place for human groups to create and developing diverse cultures. Banjarmasin is a city that has a historically strong culture of living by the river. Nowadays, the condition of the riverbank settlements to the river banks still fill the river spaces but has a variety of problems, especially the river ecology, the slums, and the absence of the arrangement of the settlement. The purpose of this research is to find a model of the Modular river settlement system in Banjarmasin city; And get the essential components needed for the development of the Riverbank Settlement model in Banjarmasin. The findings of this research explain that a pattern of settlements with many layers is an improper pattern for the city of Banjarmasin. The linear pattern, the low density and two-faced orientation are suitable formulations for the city of Banjarmasin. The conclusion in the study stated that the modular model of the river-riverside settlement system in the city of Banjarmasin which was reviewed from connectivity and shading was a linear model with a maximum of 2 layers of residential layering. As for the recommendations of the results of this research explaining that the current settlements need to be in the governance of ecological and cultural rules as well as recommendations for new development with strict requirements of technology in order not to interfere with river ecology.
