Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the absorption and retention rate, to measure the percentage of weight reduction, degree of damage, mortality of termites and to know the durability of jackfruit wood preserved with borax and boric acid preservatives against ground termite attack. Based on the data obtained, can be determined the concentration and duration of optimal immersion in jackfruit wood preservation. The Benefits derived from this study are expected to provide information on the durability of jackfruit wood after preserved using borax preservatives and boric acid preservatives against ground termite attack. The method used was an experimental method. The results of the study showed an average absorption value of 66,67 kg/m3-188.89 kg/m3, the mean theoretical retention rate of 6,67 kg/m3- 37,78 kg/m3, and the actual average retention rate between 33,33 kg/m3-111.11 kg/m3. The mean value of weight reduction is 3,12% - 12,04%, the average value of degrees of damage is 33,33% - 66,67%, while the termite mortality value of the ground termite shows the same result in each treatment that reaches 100% death termites. Durability of jackfruit wood preserved with borax preservative and boric acid optimal at concentration of 10% with 4 hours of soaking time. The result of advanced variance analysis showed that the treatment of concentration difference and the duration of immersion used significantly affected the absorption value, theoretical retention, and actual retention.
