Abstract:
Since 2014 Banjarmasin City government has proclaimed river revitalization program. The program is expected to increase tourist’s interest and investment. River as Banjarmasin city icon is used as the main sector in optimizing tourism and investment potential. On Banjarmasin people as internal public relations side, the clean and comfortable river is able to create a healthy environment for Banjarmasin society. In order to achieve that goal, people's participation in river revitalization programmed is sincerely needed. The research aimed to analyze environmental communication of Banjarmasin City government in increasing people's participation in river revitalization program. The research used a qualitative approach and the data collecting method used was interview to collect information from the informant about environmental communication of Banjarmasin City government in increasing people's participation in the river revitalization program. Key
informant in this research was the environmental office of Banjarmasin City. Result of the study showed that the main program of Banjarmasin City government in increasing people participation is Maharagu Sungai. The program is in a form of competition. The program is a stimulant to make people who live along river banks become the river manager. Those people who would be the agent of change to encourage others to change their habit.
