Abstract:
This research aims to determine the legal protection on Geographical Indication products in the South Kalimantan Province. The type of research used is normative juridical research, which focused on examining the application of rules or norms in positive law, sourced from library research and used legal materials. The results of study conclude that there is no regional policy that can encourage local people to register their geographical indication products. However, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Southern Kalimantan has been registering Tiyung Chili products from Tapin Regency in 2017, the process is still under investigation by a team from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights and experts from agriculture to take stamping from the products. Then in 2018, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Southern Kalimantan Region was also in the process of registering Padi Unus Mutiara from the Barito Kuala District, in contrary to the process of Tiyung Chili which had entered the research process. This product is still in the data collection stage so that it can later be registered and enter the research process.
