Description:
Rat is one of the major pests of rice plant causing great damage or decreasing rice production. Average
annual damage caused by rats in 2011-2015 is 426.204 ha area. Chemical control is common but it can not erase the
negative effects such as the occurrence of a deterrent feed, environmental residue, not reach the right target. Therefore,
it is necessary to doing control so it will not have a negative impact, such as using materials of plant that known as
botanical pesticides. Gadung (Dioscorea hispida) is the type of plant that can be used as a pesticide against pest such
as sucking pest of rice, lice, pig, leafhopper, rat and nematode. Commonly Gadung grow in dry land, because of that in
Kalimantan Selatan, the production of this plant is not abundant. Some serious problems such as rat pests, declining rice
production in wet land. Gadung as pest biocontroling program needed to manage and supress rat population to increase
rice harvest and production. The purpose of this research is to determine the concentration of Gadung tuber solution and
the types of feed that are best to influence the life of mice in the laboratory. This research using Nested Factorial with
Completely Randomized Design (CRD) as field design repeated 3 times. The feeding technic is mixing gadung solution
into some of feed substance, which are rice, cassava and coconut with concentration of 0%, 25% and 50% soaked for
12 hours. Feed given daily 2 grams. Observations carried out on body weight, body length and time of death of white
mice. The result shows the feeding with concentration of 25 % is the best treatment to kill white male mice with fastest
time of 246 hours on feed enos cassava, 424 hours on coconut and 380 hours on feed rice of types.
