Metacognition is the awareness of cognitive processes. By using metacognition, someone does all the
activities with full awareness. The objective of this research is to develop learning model (i-SMART) and learning
materials that involve student’s metacognition and character, curiosity, cooperate, and precision, which perform all acts
by full awareness. They always make good representing the problem, planning, monitoring, evaluating, and transfering
their action. The type reseach is Research and Development, tested at class XI MIA 4 SMA Negeri 1 Banjarmasin.
Implementation of design research conducted using one-group pretest-posttest design. Data was collected through
testing, observation, questionnaires and interviews techniques. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The
results showed that the model i-SMART develoved has been effective: (a) increasing in student cognitive, metacognitive
skills, and student character, (b) learning material based on local potentials make the students learn to their
surroundings.
