Abstract: The background of this research is based on the practice field experience (PPL)
of students in class VIII SMPN 9 Banjarmasin have less role in the learning process. It
was caused the teacher centered as the learning model that used in the school. This
research aims to analyze the differences of student achievement between using
cooperative learning model type think pair share with type pair checks in class VIII SMP
Negeri 9 Banjarmasin. This research is quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent
group pretest-posttest design. Sample was taken by using random cluster sampling
technique. Based on these technique, derived class VIII A as experiment class I and class
VIII B as experiment class II. The instrument of this research is the achievement test
(THB), namely posttest. Data analysis teqnique used to test the hypothesis is t-test. The
results showed that there are differences of student achievement between using
cooperative learning type think pair share and pair checks type in class VIII SMP Negeri
9 Banjarmasin.
