dc.description The objective of this research to study comprehensively about food habits aspect as a fundamental matter in management of feeding, about parasites aspects as fundamental matter in fish health management and to study several bio-limnology parameters of Snake head fish (Channa striata) habitat as a fundamental for aquaculture. The location of research are Sungai Batang Village (small river); Bangkau Village (hinterland swamp) and Anjir Muara Village (tidal swamp). The first year research is for 6 month (May – October 2009). Sampling did with hand line and all snake head fish samples that caught are in adult size and the weight vary from 150 – 1.065 gram and the height vary from 16,0 – 52,5 cm.. The analysis of snake head fish’s food habits use Index of Preponderance method. Then for the bio-limnology study is by data that consist of plankton, macrozoobenthos, macrophyta and several water quality parameters. The result of research are: (1) Food habits of adult Snake head fish at small river, hinterland swamp and tidal swamp are not differ too much. The stomach contents dominated by small fish e.g. Trichogaster trichopterus, Trichogaster pectoralis, Rasbora sp, Osteochilus hasellti, Helostoma teminckii and frog e.g.Rana sp; (2) Generally, the composition of food habits of Snake head fish that live in common aquatic are small fish 90,69%, frog 7,49%, crustacea 0,5%, mollusca 1,26%, grass 0,13% dan plankton 0,007%. So, the main foods of Snake head fish are small fish and frog, and the rest are just as additional foods. This matter can be told that Snake head fish as an carnivore fish; (3) Bio-limnology study in common aquatic; habitat of Snake head fish create a result that plankton, macrozoobenthos and makrophyta in normal fertility level and several water quality show a suitable parameters with the desired growth of Snake head fish.
