Abstract:
This study analyzes the changes in mangrove land cover and its management strategies in
Takisung District, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan, over the period from 2014 to 2023.
Using Landsat imagery and the Random Forest classification algorithm, spatial and temporal
changes in mangrove extent and distribution were mapped across four villages: Pagatan Besar,
Tabanio, Telaga Langsat, and Kuala Tambangan. The results show a 13% decrease in mangrove
cover due to anthropogenic pressures such as land-use conversion, aquaculture expansion, and
coastal development. Through a SWOT approach, the recommended management strategies
focus on empowering local communities, providing technical training, conserving critical areas,
and fostering collaboration with ministries and NGOs. This research contributes to coastal
ecosystem conservation efforts and supports data-driven spatial policy-making.
