Background: Foot massage is a non-pharmacological therapy that can lower the blood pressure (BP). Massage can increase the blood circulation to the joints, deliver oxygen, flex tense muscles, ease heart performance, and helps reduce the walls of veins constriction, hence BP can decrease.
Objective: To describe and analyze the nursing care of Mrs. F, a subject with hypertension, through foot massage therapy intervention.
Case report: This study was a case study in one of the people with hypertension. The client was given the main intervention in the form of foot massage therapy which was carried out from 18 – 23 May 2022 with a duration of 30 minutes of massage. Subject’s BP was observed before and after the intervention. Outcome: The nursing diagnosis of client is a risk of ineffectiveness of peripheral tissue perfusion with risk factors: lack of knowledge about the disease process and conditions related to hypertension. Furthermore, the BP observed from the first day of assessment was 171/88 mmHg, the second day of assessment was 185/100 mmHg, and on the sixth day after the intervention achieved 135/79 mmHg. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological foot massage therapy one time a day regularly able to lower blood pressure during six days observation time. |
