dc.description.abstract Background: Periodontitis is a destructive inflammation of periodontal tissue caused by anaerob bacteria such as Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (Aa), Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), and Prevotella intermedia which are characterized by pocket formation, tooth mobility, loss of attachment and gingival recession. Periodontitis can be treated by scaling and root planning and supported by anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. Long-term administration of ibuprofen can cause side effect so it requires alternatives such as natural ingredients. Natural ingredients that can be used as alternatives are propolis kelulut G.thoracica . Propolis kelulut G.thoracica contains flavonoid which act as anti-inflammatory so it will reduce the number of netrophil cells. Objective: To prove the effect of extract flavonoid propolis (G.thoracica) on netrophil cell in periodontitis-induced wistar rat (Rattus norvegicus). Methods: This study used 36 rats which divided into 9 groups: negative control groups that were not given any treatment at all, the treatment group was given 0.5 mg of flavonoid propolis extract, and positive control groups of ibuprofen. Results: The results of One-way ANOVA showed significant differences in each treatment group on day 1 (p = 0,000), day 3 (p = 0.001), and day 5 (p = 0.002). Post-Hoc Bonferroni test for the average of netrophil number showed significant differences (p <0.05) in each group. Conclusion: Flavonoid propolis kelulut extract has effect to increase the number of netrophil cells in day 1 and decrease the number of netrophil cells in day 3 and 5 on periodontitis-induced wistar rats. en_US
