Lipid extraction of Synechococcus sp. biomass using osmotic shock method has been
performed. The aims of this reserach are to obtain the optimum extraction conditions, lipid
productivity, and lipid characteristics. In this research NaCl, KCl, CH3COONa and glucose with
concentration of 50; 100; 150; 200; and 250 g/L were used as osmotic agents. The highest yield and
lipid productivity were 12.19% and 95.42 mg/L/day, respectively when CH3COONa (250 g/L) was
used as the osmotic agent. The characterization of lipid after esterification with GCMS obtained five
main methyl ester compounds that were methyl palmitic, methyl linoleate, methyl stearate, methyl
elaidic, and methyl oleate. Based on the characterization results, it is concluded that the microalgae
Synechococcus sp. is potential to develope as raw material of biodiesel. |
