Kotabaru Regency, especially its small islands has a potential sea turtle nesting beach. Ironically the use and trade in the form of eggs, meat and other body parts can still be found easily in this area. As is known, all types of sea turtles and their derivatives are included in the protected fish species and are included in CITES Appendix I. All types of sea turtles found in Indonesian waters are protected either by Law, Government Regulation or Minister Decree in this case the Minister of Forestry and Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries The purpose of this activity is to provide awareness to the community and to introduce sustainable turtle conservation management. The benefits of this activity are expected to be able to understand the forms of turtle protection and management and can actively participate in habitat recovery efforts and rescue turtle biota itself so that these resources can be sustainable. Community service activities are carried out by active lecture method through socialization of turtle bio-ecology, endangered biota policies and field practices through simulation of captive breeding and hatchery. The results of the activity show that the local government and the community are very enthusiastic and play an active role both in the classroom and in the field. This
is a form of positive support in efforts to save turtle biota and their derivatives which in recent years have experienced a decline in population. |
