"Zodia essential oil is an essential oil that has repellent power to mosquito’s activity of
sucking blood. The Zodia can be developed to produce a body protective material. Therefore, it is
needed to do the research about the safety use of this material for human. Taking into acount that
the use of such material is directly connected with skin surface, this research is focused on
observing skin sightings morphology exposed to Zodia essential oil. Experiment skin irritation test
has been done using Draize method by lubricating essential oil 5% to guinea pig’s skin. We
observed the guinea pig’s skin morphology macroscopically (eritema and edema), the changes of
skin colour and smoothness, and also behaviour changes. The observation results show that the
treatment of Zodia essential oil does not show indications of skin damage either in eritema or
edema. The treatment of essential oil results in smooth, shinning, and glossy skin which is
different from the control skin. Furthermore, the use of Zodia essential oil does not indicate any
poisoned behaviours such as loosing appetite, vomit, silent or aggressive. In short, the treatment
of 5% zodia essential oil does not induce guinea pig’s skin inflammation; even the guinea pig’s skin
becomes smoother and silkier." |
