East Kalimantan is the largest contributor to the province's trade reptiles in Indonesia that still rely on the results of the exploitation of nature. Most reptiles are derived from the waters of the Mahakam particularly upstream watershed of Mahakam. To know the location of harvesting and the type of reptile that utilized the survey needs to be done then. The survey is conducted by the method of snowball sampling aimed at tracing the chain of the reptile trade in East Kalimantan. Some reptiles there are collectors who came from the fishermen and gatherers of the fish, but there are also making it the main livelihood. Almost no results from fishermen who wasted, no exception reptiles that caught the net or fishing line. Recorded at least three (3) district in East Kalimantan as gatherers and the main suppliers of the reptile trade i.e. Kutai Kartanegara, Kutai Barat and Kutai Timur. Freshwater in 3 (three) district is connected by watershed of Mahakam including 3 large lakes namely Jempang lake, Semayang lake and Melintang lake. Species of reptiles collected include: Python reticulatus, Acrochordus javanicus, Amyda cartilaginea, Dogania subplana, Varanus salvator and Coura amboinensis. It also often caught reptiles protected i.e. Crocodylus siamensis, Orlitia borneensis as well as other species. Lack of knowledge of Community fishermen and gatherers against reptile species are allowed to bring a bad impact is traded for the preservation of wildlife.
