dc.description The river is a form of aquatic ecosystem playing a significant role in the water cycle and serves as a water catchment area. Based on interviews with people who were around the study site, the river in the Village Pengambau Hulu serves as the daily livelihood of seeking shrimp. Previously there are many shrimp in the river, but after the mining of sand resulted in shrimp populations began to decrease. In fact, the shrimp utilized by people to be arrested and resold or processed a variety of dishes, one of which “Paisan Udang”. This research aimed to analyze the type, abundance and diversity of shrimps in the River of Pengambau Hulu Village, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency. The method used in this research is descriptive method with direct observation of the field for the sampling to determine the diversity of the types of shrimp. Locations of the research conducted were the area before the sand mining, at the sand mining area, and the area after sand mining. Seven species of shrimp were found. They belong to the family of Palaemonidae namely: Macrobrachium formosense, Macrobrachium brasiliense, Macrobrachium sp, Macrobrachium sintagense, Macrobrachium equidens, Macrobrachium rosenbergi and Macrobrachium malayanum. The highest abundant species was Macrobrachium sintagense and the lowest one was Macrobrachium rosenbergii. The diversity was categorized moderate (H’ = 1.88).
