dc.description Gemor was a potential non timber forest product commodity that has high economic value, especially to meet the needs of the industrial market and the mosquito repellent incense. High demand and limited availability in nature causing commodity prices was quite promising. This study aimed to determine the socio-economic conditions and trading system of Gemor in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. The study was conducted by survey method. The number of respondents who were taken by 10% which was selected by purposive sampling based on community residences, residing in and outside the forest area. The method was carried out by direct interview with the farming community of Gemor, buyer, owner of the warehouse/industrial and related agencies such as the Provincial and District Department of Forestry, Department of Forestry and the Provincial and District Department of Industry and Trade. Based on interviews with farmer community of Gemor, said that since a few decades ago Gemor bark harvesting from natural forests was one of the people's livelihood both located in Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan. Trading system chain of Gemor began with Gemor gatherers and culminated in the final level of Gemor bark industries that manufactured mosquito repellent, incense, and exported Gemor bark powder abroad such as Taiwan. Prices of Gemor bark ranged between IDR 3,000 to IDR 5,500 at collector level, while at the level of a large collector ranged from IDR 7,000 to IDR 17,000.
