There are many versions of the Siti Zubaidah poem. Each version has the same gist but the
difference lies in the prioritized theme. If the version prioritizes romance, then the romantic side
will dominate the poem. Therefore, each of researcher often has different perception in
concluding the theme and type of the poem. Some researchers regard Siti Zubaidah’s poem as a
romantic, fantasy, or historical poem. This research aims to analyze the poem of Siti Zubaidah in
Marabahan version. The research uses qualitative method. Hermeneutics approach is applied in
analyzing the data. The result of the research emphasize that the syair of Siti Zubaidah belongs to
a religious poem due to most of the plots which contain religious nuance. Six out of eight plots in
the poem contain religious aspect in which the first plot tells about the introduction of the
characters and the background story while the second plot contains a romantic nuance. Religious
nuance is created by the main character named Siti Zubaidah through the action and statement
based on her religious belief, which is Islam.
